22A – Elevator Pitch No. 3

2) I was not given much feedback on anything to work on.  I was given one piece of feedback from Ben complimenting how he liked how I added his along with Esteban's feedback into it.

3) In my 3rd pitch, I really wanted to work on being able to memorize it and be more comfortable with it.  I tend that sometimes when I begin to panic, I speed my pace up and it can sometimes be longer than 1 minute.  I also have been trying to become more comfortable in front of the camera which I think I have been doing a lot better with.

    • Rare: It is not that rare.
    • Inimitable: There are so many research tools that could be used.
    • Non-substutable: It could be substituted with several things.
After doing a VRIN analysis, I think that my best tool would be having the connection of working in sports.  I decided to choose this because to me, nothing can ever beat experience.  I as able to make so many connections along the way while I was also able to see what fans liked and didn't like.  I think that working in sports also pulls in more of my ideas such as my resources and connections from working in the MLB.

21A – Reading Reflection No. 2

  1. What was the general theme or argument of the book?
    • The general theme and argument of the book, Cognitive Surplus, by Clay Shirky is that back in the day, people would typically spend a lot of their time watching television.  In today's day, instead of television, people are now consuming their day to day lives on social media sources.  Unlike television, you can carry your smart phone with you and can be more active on social media which is why I believe that it has taken it over.  Cognitive Surplus taught me and made me realize that there is more to life than constantly checking social media and seeing what is going on in the world.
  2. How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
    • I think that Cognitive Surplus made me realize that you cannot continue to focus on what everyone else in the world is doing with their lives.  On social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat, you are able to see all of those traits.  To connect it to ENT 3003, in my opinion, entrepreneurs are more productive and active when focusing on what THEIR next move is going to be and THEIR next idea is.  While you are wasting your time on social media that time could cost you and wind up being someone else's idea that could possibly turn into a huge profit.
  3.  If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
    • If I had to design an exercise for this class based on Cognitive Surplus, I would have students do research on rates of how long people use their social media for and see the side effects that they get.  These side effects can consist of depression, anxiety, along with obesity.  I feel that if people did not watch as much television or use as much social media, they would feel generally healthier in their mental mind along with their physical self.
  4. What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
    • The biggest surprise to me were the statistics that were brought into this book.  I was totally unaware of how many people were using smartphones along with how much television people used to watch and still watch.  Obviously most people today use smartphones but to actually think about how many people that is blows my mind.  Thinking of smartphones makes me also think how many products and chances are missed out on just because someone is staring at their phone curious as to what someone else is doing or what they have to say.

    • I will be able to have background knowledge on what will be the most efficient way about creating my tablet.
Finally: Reflect
I think being able to find a target market can be somewhat hard but at the same time I feel like I have found my right target market being sports fans.  What I found interesting was that I need another target market.  I was able to see that I also needed to target the tech market to get more information on some things that I truthfully don't know much about.  Being able to reach out to people more experienced in something than me was tough but made me eager to learn.

19A – Idea Napkin No. 2

  • Who you are. What your talents are. What your skills and experiences are. Also: what are your aspirations? Specifically regarding your business concept, how do you see this business (if you were to start it) playing a role in your life?
    • My name is Billy McEnroe and this is my second semester at the University of Florida majoring in Sports Management.  I have a huge passion for sports and see myself being involved in them in some way for the rest of my life.  I was involved in three sports in high school and played one sport in college for a short period of time. I have experience in working with professional sports behind the scenes and being able to hear what some people have issues with.  I see my business role playing a huge role in my life because I know there will be 100% effort put into it.  I want to be able to make the change of people getting more enjoyment into their activities at sporting events and think it is a chance to bring in a lot of revenue.  My strengths consist of being a huge people person and being able to talk to anyone.  I believe this will help me further my business because I will be able to reach out to as many people as possible without feeling uncomfortable.
  • Describe the product or service (in other words, how you'll solve customers' unmet needs).
    • The product I would like to design is pretty simple but I really believe that it can work effectively and efficiently.  I would like to make a tablet for stadiums that is installed into the seats.  On the tablet, you will be able to order food and drinks along with being able to pay for them at your seat so that an employee will be able to bring them to you without any hassle.  This will limit lines and will make it easier to move on the upper levels.  On this tablet, you will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets for future games or concerts.  If you get up in the middle of a sporting event to use the restroom or for another reason, you will be able to sit back down and watch replays that you might have missed on the tablet.
  •  Describe, in as much detail as possible, the demographic and psychographic characteristics of your customers. Think especially of this question: what do your customers all have in common?
    • I am offering this to one main group which is people who typically go to sporting events and concerts that range from the ages 16 and up.  They are my target market because after my research, around the age of 16 it is common for them to get some kind of card that they would be able to use on the tablet to purchase.  The tablet highlights could also target another group of younger kids who love watching replays at the games.  What they all have in common is being able to have the ultimate experience at events.
  • Your solution is only valuable insofar as customers believe its valuable to them. Here, explain why customers will actually pay you money to use your product or service.
    • Customers will actually pay me money to use this product because they simply will not have to get up from their seats to miss action unless they have to use the restroom.  If they do choose to get up to purchase their food or drinks with cash, the lines will be very slim and if they miss an action play they will be able to sit down and rewatch it.  If a team is doing well, they will also be tempted to purchase more tickets right at their seat.  I also will be able to make money off of stadiums because they are the ones actually purchasing the tablet itself.  The tablet will be a high graded technology that will be high in cost.
  •  What sets you apart from everyone else? Also: what do you have that nobody else has?
    • To my knowledge, this is not something that someone has fully installed into their stadium which is why I think it sets me apart from everyone else.  Jumping on top of this opportunity will give me the chance to make the trend big.  If it is successful in stadiums, more and more are going to want to use it.
  • In addition to these five elements, please spend a paragraph evaluating whether you believe these elements fit together or whether there are aspects of your business concept that are weaker / out-of-joint with the others.
    • For the most part, I believe that these five elements fit well together.  One future issue that I can see is having to come up with the tablet and being able to make the investment into it.  Obviously this type of technology costs a lot of money but if I am able to do it, there is potential for a lot to come back over time.  My second issue is that it does not target a younger market for the need of a card to pay for it at their seat.  My reasoning why I do not think it is that big of a problem is that if they are that young, they are most likely coming with a parent or friends parent that would be able to make the payment.
  • For the "feedback memo" -- please summarize at least two main points that you took away from the feedback you received. Also, please describe how you incorporated the feedback into this idea napkin.
    • One main point that I took from my feedback was how I would be able to continue to take money.  I noted how not only would I be making money off of the customers making purchases, but I would also be making money of the stadiums that would be purchasing the tablets.
    • A second main point that I took from my feedback was adding my strengths.  Being able to talk to people is what I believe to be a huge strength because it will be tough to sell a product without knowing anybody.
    • I incorporated the feedback into the first question along with adding more feedback into question four.

17A – Elevator Pitch No. 2

2) What stood out to me to be really important was the feedback that was given to me.  Ben had thought that I did a great job explaining the problems of the current situation along with the benefits that it would bring.  This had given me more confidence on my idea knowing that more people thought it was a good idea.  I also thought the feedback from Ben was really interesting because it gave me more outlook on my idea and how I can better express myself.  Esteban gave me a good outlook on structuring my pitch down more and spend more time on stating why the product matters.
3) Based off of my feedback, I took advice from both of my classmates.  I went over who we are as a company and how I would be making money, how I would be hired by the stadium, and how we would be producing the tablets ourselves.  I also structured the pitch down more so that the customers are able to see why the product matters more.

18A – Create a Customer Avatar

My product can essentially be sold to both individuals or businesses.  It can be sold to individuals for several reasons.  My individual customer has a love for sporting events.  They love going to these events to have fun.  When they are at these events, they love having refreshing drinks and food.  What makes this product so special is that now they do not have to get up at all.  They will be able to pay for the product and have it brought to their seats.  TV shows that my customer watches is ESPN and any kind of sporting events that may include football, basketball, hockey etc.  Some of my typical customers may have children or may not but it does not matter because the product is for any kind of fan.  If the customer is too young to make a purchase, a parent can but they young child will be able to play with the tablet to watch replays and see what is going on in the sports world.  My customer drives a pickup truck and enjoys tailgating before while they get ready for the game.  My customers favorite books are anything about sports.  What I have in common with the customer avatar is everything.  I am a huge fan of sports and love watching everything on sports as it is one of the only things I will watch on TV.  I do not think it is a coincidence because I think a lot of people passionate about sports make it one of their top priorities in their life.

15A- Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

1) In my option, my target customers would do their picking based off of what is most convenient for them and what is going to benefit them the most.  I think that the quality of how fast their food is brought to them is also another major factor that could determine the success rate of my idea and customer satisfaction.  There is more than one factor that is important to my customer segment.  The important factors consist of timely fashion, quality of the food, and how the tablet works overall.

2) I think that my segment is more likely to be purchased in a group order by stadiums throughout the country.  Obviously there are a lot of seats in a stadium which means that there would have to be a lot of tablets in this situation.  I think that the purchase would most likely have to be financed based off the cost of what they can potentially be.  The people involved in the purchase decision would be the stadium owners.

3) What matters most to my customers is that the people are getting what they want.  What the people would want is to be able to buy food and have it brought to their seats along with being able to order future tickets and watch in game highlights on the actual tablet.  This leads to what the stadium owners want which is smaller lines throughout the stadiums which could also prevent less fights going on throughout games. What determines that the purchase was a good idea is that everyone is happy.  It could be considered a bad idea if there are any technical problems or the people aren't getting what they want.

4) In my first interview, I was able to find out that Chris thought it was a really good idea but thinks that there just can't be any early technical problems.  I think of this to be an issue because the only way to find out is from putting it into stadiums.  Chris also stated he would really enjoy being able to pay and have the food brought to him.  In my second interview with Pat, I was able to find out that he also thought it was a good idea but mentioned how if the food and drinks are not on time, or the food is wrong or isn't looking nice, he probably would not be happy with the experience.  In my last interview with Kevin, he stated that he thinks more thought needs to be put into it to determine whether or not it can actually work and people would want to buy into it.

5) I think it was a good idea to interview another set of people to get more opinions on the idea.  I was able to see what I need to adjust and fix to make sure it is what I want to move forward with.

14A- Halfway Reflection

1) Tenaciousness is a competency. What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course?
One behavior that I have used and developed while taking this course is to be very proactive with the work that is given and looking at each assignment at the beginning of the week so I know what is in front of me and what I have to do.  Doing this has allowed me to be able to turn in all of the assignments on time along with getting the grades necessary.  Another behavior that I have been using is paying attention to detail.  I think that having the "Examples of Excellent Student Submissions" tool has been very helpful and has given me a lot of success.  There were a lot of times where I was not sure how to go about one of the assignments and looked to that for help.
2) Tenaciousness is also about attitude. Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this?
One moment that I felt like giving up during this course was when we first began to do interviews for our ideas.  Not that I have an issue talking to other people but talking to the right people was making me panic.  Being an online student, I do not have the opportunities as on campus students because they have a whole community that they can go to along with possible sections they can go to.  Having to do interviews really has made me come out of my shell and work with people that I typically wouldn't.
3) Three tips. What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about (1) fostering the skills that support tenacity and (2) developing the 'tenacious mindset' ?
One tip that I would give to next semester's student about fostering the skills that support tenacity are to continue to work in this course and to not give up.  This course provides a lot of work but it is definitely doable if you just stay consistent and stay on top of all of your assignments.  Another tip that I would give is to look back on your past accomplishments in other classes to help motivate you to push through this one.  UF is a very competitive school with very tough courses and I am sure everyone has gotten through a tough course thinking that they wouldn't have done as well as they did.  Lastly, I would recommend to keep an open mind and not be afraid to open yourself up to other people.  You can really take advantage of your interviews if you open up to the right people who are in the field that you are trying to get into with your ideas.
